Royal Academy Summer Exhibition

 My work in the Large Weston Room, RA. 2014

Monday 2nd June was Varnishing Day at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.  'Bunny Girl' and 'EB' were chosen and hung by Eileen Cooper RA who told me how much she liked them.  Great to see them up there on the walls standing their ground with the good and the great.  A mention on the wall as well!  Delighted.

New painting

I decided to make the background become part of the foreground.   Wiping away paint to suggest a form. Leaving areas empty so that the 'eye has work to do'. (I love that phrase) The woman's eyes on different plains.  I'm reminded of Picasso' s Demoiselles D'Avignon with its sharp African mask like faces.  The face as mask.  Beauty is a mask.

Had a great visit from a gallery on Friday, a very erudite and smart woman…  very exciting...

Painting woman with a cat mask - quick brushstrokes, she seems like she has just turned round and is appearing out of the darkness.
